CV

Angelos Syrigos graduated from the Law School of the National University of Athens in 1988. He continued for post-graduates studies in the Faculty of Law of the University of Bristol, England. In 1994 he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of public international law. Since 1991 he is a member of the Law Bar of Athens and practising lawyer in Athens. In August 2012 he has been appointed as Secretary General of Population and Social Cohesion of the Greek Ministry of Interior and he is, obligatory, on a leave from his duties at the University.

He has served as

  1.     Vice-president of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) (2009-2011)
  2.     Secretary for Intercultural Education and Greek Studies Abroad of the Greek Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs (2007-2009).
  3.     Legal Advisor to the Greek ministry of Foreigh Affairs (1999-2001 & 2004-2005).
  4.     Director of the International Olympic Truce Centre, a non-governmental organization included in the framework of the Olympic Movement

 

He has also worked as

  1.  Research Fellow at the Research Centre for International Law of the University of Cambridge and he was a Research Associate of Corpus Christi College of the University of Cambridge (1993-1994)
  2.  Legal Expert to the Council of Europe in two Cooperation Programmes on administrative reforms in the field of human rights protection in Azerbaijan and Montenegro (2000-2003)

His research interests include international law and foreign policy, law of the sea, Greek-Turkish relations, Balkans and minorities.
